The Westpac experience

Everyone has their own opinion but I had a very good experience with Westpac today when asking about a mortgage. The biggest thing for us is the amount a bank will lend on an apartment and these guys are not that cautious and treat apartments like houses. So I think they’ll get our business. Sorry National, but lending only 70% is no good for us.

Date scones

We’ve started a little routine of stopping by Nikau cafe at the weekend and I have to make a big deal of the fact that apart from their date scones being to die for, they serve them up with butter that you can actually spread! I can’t stand cafes that serve rock hard butter (usually little wet triangles that they’ve kept in the fridge) with soft something-or-other – toast, muffins, brioches etc so well done Nikau! They also use Supreme coffee but I might switch to a flat white as I think their lattes are single shot so taste a bit milky.

MS Money

Call me anal and risk adverse but I am still a fan of MS Money ‘95 and today my years of diligently categorising and entering receipts paid off. We’re entering the grown up world of getting a mortgage and being able to tell the bank what you spend each month by pushing a button and printing out a nice report was fantastic! Not so fantastic to see the ‘000’s we’ve spent on rent since the start of the year so bring on the mortgage!

Cheap flights, not

Was subjected to great amounts of disappointment today attempting to secure ‘only $81* to Auckland’ and ‘only $53* to Blenheim’ airfares. Obviously only available at 1.15pm on Tuesday afternoon and only in a month’s time. I should’ve known these fares exclude weekend trips. Thanks Air NZ (www.airnz.co.nz). However, can get to Blenheim in October for a weekend – yipee!

Orange bill board

I was up Victoria Street today and was saddened to see that there is now less orange in the world with the removal of the orange Revive coffee bill board on the corner of Victoria and Dixon.

Orange handbags

Today I was offered an orange Prada handbag through somebody at work. I was pretty keen as it would be the 6th to join my collection of orange handbags and who can resist Prada and under $100? Unfortunately it was more calfshit brown than orange so I will resist.
