I don’t need micro-management

I’m often stuck in a very unpleasent situation where I have to deal with people who have no time to devote to the ’small’ things at work. However my working life is about dealing with such things. In order to do my job and process these things I need to know what’s expected and ask questions about all the gaps but I constantly feel that this makes me come across as someone who needs micro-management and someone who cannot think for themselves. A very tricky situation. Who’d be a project manager. Sigh.

50 days until Christmas!

Where has the year gone? I must admit I have got 2 presents, 2 rolls of wrapping paper and some new orange baubles already :-)

Very proud of myself – using the time delay on our digital camera I took this FAB photo of the explosive celebrations this evening.

Ctrl+U

I just had a funny thing happen. I was handwritng a note about something and I paused at underlining a phrase I’d just written, deciding to return and underline it later, in case the underlining ran onto words following the phrase that I did want underlined. All this in a split second and all this because I am so used to typing everything these days that the split second thought was totally the thought I’d have if I’d've been typing! (Depends of course on how you type – whether you’re from the format as you go school of typing or not). This is just another example of the art of handwriting, complete sentences, spelling and formality going out of modern day communication.

Who likes rocket?

Yick – I don’t. Too wierd for a lettuce variety (if that’s what it is). Except if it’s in the gorgeous rocket and fresh herb risotto served up at Capitol.

Punctuality

I just don’t understand how people in a work environment who constantly refer to being so busy can swan into meetings 5 or 10 minutes late! I would’ve thought that tightening up your time would help i.e. by arriving to a meeting on time, getting it done and completed on time, and back to work. I do actually feel insulted when I have organised my day around something starting at a certain time and I have to sit there for 10 minutes of wasted time waiting for everyone to amble in, then go out again to get coffee … grrrr!
