Coffee in the Bay

Heading up to Napier this weekend and already wondering where to get a decent cup of coffee. I’m not one for ordering a motel breakfast so will head into town in search of peanut butter toast and a flat white. Just had a scavenge on the Napier tourism website and found a couple of possibilities:

  • Cafe DMP - “Winner of the Hawke’s Bay Barista Competition 2004” does not necessarily mean awesome coffee,

  • Cafe Aroma - ex-Wellingtonians sounds promising, if they came from the cafe trade down here.

Flaming Katie

I turns out that the plant I was given yesterday Kalanchoe blossfeldiana has the common name ‘Flaming Katie’ which I thought was quite appropriate!!

Yet another gift from a colleague! Someone saw this at the weekend and potted it up for my window sill – so thoughtful :-)

Re-visiting Kay Scarpetta

Over the last 10 years or so I’ve read all the novels Patricia Cornwell has written and I would put her at the top of my favourite non-chick-lit author list. Seeing as I’m such a fan and seeing as my partner loves CSI on Sunday nights, I thought he might like Cornwell’s Scarpetta series. I have most of the books but not the first one, so purchased and re-read it. Fantastic. So now I’m on a mission to read them all again and at the weekend rummaged through second-hand book stores to get the 3 I didn’t have to complete my series.

Spreading the orange word

I’ve given out my blog address to 2 more people in the last 10 days and have posted nothing since doing so … tsk tsk! However, the more I give it out, the more ‘brave’ I become about revealing this ‘creative’ side of mine and am seriously considering linking my blog up to my website. Big step!! Just have to have a conversation with Paradise about whether or not they continue to host my site because now we are using DTS my FTP access to Paradise has been cut off so I have to update my site via dial-up which is painfully slow in this day and age – especially when I mostly upload photos. Wonder if I’ll get the ‘you’re a dumb girl’ service or not…

A friend just sent me this! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orange - very interesting. Obviously I’m especially excited about finding out about the town of Orange in New York! Except population of around 2000 means it could be one of those freaky little US towns…
