October 11th, 2005 — Orange, Work
The NZ Business Games are on at the moment and a few people from work have been competing. This morning I found an orange Business Games pen on my desk and just now an orange plastic bag turned up in and internal envelope - treats from the Tour of Wellington event that was on last night.
Everyone around here knows me!!!
October 9th, 2005 — TV and movies
2.32pm Friday 7 October 2005 the 61″ rear projection Toshiba television was pronounced dead
After a suitable mourning period, it was replaced by a kick-ass Panasonic projector with a wall-mounted 92″ screen. Mmmmmmm
Step 1: small blue screen … and yes to the left that is the edge of the manual that was actually being consulted!

Step 2: we have a picture! Albeit small. But not as small as the 14“ TV cast aside on the floor that lasted all of 5 minutes as a temporary measure before it was proclaimed a health risk to have to watch it for an extended period of time (how’s that for an excuse for needing to buy a projector!)

Step 3: Ahhhh, Jeremy. The world is right again.

New shop selling coffee machines in the James Smith’s market – including an orange one. Didn’t get to go inside though as contrary to their stated hours of opening, 11.00am – 5.00pm on Saturday, they weren’t open at 11.40am.

October 6th, 2005 — TV and movies
Last night the TV went black. Very very sad. Finding someone to do a house call is proving to be quite difficult as well but there’s no easy way to get it to a workshop when we don’t even know if it can be fixed. Screwed the back off, and the front for good measure … hmmmmm … not as easy as spotting a blown projector bulb. Very very sad.

Just saw a friend riding another friend’s Segway. Had never seen it up close before – it’s quite large and goes quite fast.
October 5th, 2005 — Orange
Looks what’s taken up residence in our apartment … Orange Crush 10 … methinks someone is getting away with this noise-maker because it’s orange!

October 4th, 2005 — Random thoughts
I was at yoga (again!) last night and missed the TV news so only heard on the radio this morning through my blurry sleepy brain that plans are afoot to build a coastal motorway right through a home belonging to our family at Paekakariki! I must say I’ve not been active in my opinion of previous plans for Transmission Gully or the urban motorway changes near where we live in Wellington – it’s that old fence-sitter attitude where the fire inside doesn’t start until direct effects are felt. And the fire has started!
The Fisherman’s Table Restaurant on the coast at Paekakariki and the houses occupying the same land are to be bought and presumably bulldozed to build the 4-lane motorway. Regardless of how much money home-owners may get for their properties, that spot is a very rare find so close to Wellington and the family we have living there just love it and want to retire there so how can they face finding something equally as good? On that same block of land someone has only just finished building a huge 4 million dollar house – they must feel devastated.
The Council are calling for submissions and in such cases I’m not sure what anyone can say that will change their mind so we need to get used to it being a reality. It’s unclear when they might purchase affected properties and the motorway is 20 years away from being complete.
Plan and submission form are available from Greater Wellington Regional Council.

I went with our IT guy this morning to talk to some Axon network sales geek type of guys and before I went I thought I’d just have a quick scout around their website – get some feel for their range of services, where their offices were etc. As I generally always do before searching, I just guessed at the web address – in this case I thought it would be obvious – www.axon.co.nz. Hmmm, legitimate address but not an IT company – they build or manage aircraft … at first glance …

… was probably my own fault for judging a website by it’s initial ‘grab’ (duh – isn’t that the general idea?) because upon actually searching for Axon – I found that indeed their website was www.axon.co.nz and I was in the right place – certainly didn’t look like it to me! Obviously I have a preconceived notion of what an IT company’s website looks like.

I had no idea you could defibrillate from the comfort of your own home but it seems that every time you turn around some gadget is filling a gap. I went to amazon.com for the first time in a while today and there on the front page was the ‘Philips HeartStart Home Automated External Defibrillator‘. Wonders will never cease.
