Orange moon

Some saw red, I saw orange. I was in and out last night waiting to see the moon turn its once-in-7-year shade of copper because of the lunar eclipse. Just when it was about to be fully covered, really thick cloud came over. I did get to see it fully eclipsed through a break in the clouds at about 11pm and it was really lovely. I tried to take pictures – in manner of ANTM, here’s my best shot (along side the one from stuff.co.nz).

Happy cat

Monty hopped up on my knee for a big old cuddle and pat tonight. The Mister had to go hungry because I had to wait for Monty to get off my knee before I could get up to go home and make his dinner!

To believe in ’signs’ or not …

I never know how to answer those questions like ‘do you believe in fate?’, ‘do you believe in love at first sight?’. However after what I saw yesterday I think I might have to believe in signs …

I saw this orange hand bag yesterday, and when I turned the ticket over I was amazed. Surely if there are signs, that’s got to be a big one!

I have been *severely* questioned about why I didn’t buy it (you know me, not very irrational with the $$) but I think even I have to admit, it’s got my name all over it!! (I didn’t take the ‘wrinkle’ bit to heart ;-)

Building decoration

Have driven by the new Kumutoto development on the waterfront (previous post) a few times in the last couple of days on the Monty mission and finally snapped a picture of this new building.

What’s up with the louvres/louvers*? At first I thought they’d left the scaffolding up, then wondered if they were outside shutters operated by a little screw handle on the inside like so many shuttered homes in Europe.

Have scratched around and worked out that it’s the new building for Meridian Energy and is the first ‘green’ building in NZ – warming and powering itself by natural elements and its own recycling.

Based on their press release, the louvres could be part of either of these:

  • A double-skinned façade to manage the internal environment.
  • Photovoltaic solar panels to generate a small amount of electricity.
  • A computerised building management system that automatically adjusts windows, lights and air conditioning for the weather conditions outside.

* spelling of this word is somewhat ambiguous seeming to be used in either format in New Zealand and in some case in both formats at the same time. My gut feeling is ’louvre’ but have included ’louver’ as well to show that in this case I’m not sure and that I accept there may be another spelling of it.

Montyyyyy!

We’re looking after him for a few days again but this time we’re going to his house once a day. Last night he sat on my knee and smooched for a while. Today he was a bit skittery but I think it’s because the Mister came too and I think he associates males with play  time.

He’s still so lovely and soft and purrs all the time :-)

Cool orange slider

This new thing on the Air NZ site is great – How far can I go? Once you’ve selected your start point you just slide the slider along to the dollar amount you’ve got or want to spend on an airfare and wa la – see how far you can go!

Orange & pink variation

This one’s winging it’s way to Sydney as I type to 6-week old Emma. Hopefully I can post a follow-up photo of her wearing it.

Will now resume the red & green Christmas version I’ve been ‘commissioned’ to do for a friend to give as a gift.

Twins in pink

I’m chuffed I actually got to see the twins for real wearing the jackets I knitted them :-)

Check out my apple!

Fluke or supreme control due to years of practice?

Mister Speaker

The Mister survived his first giving of a speech at a conference and is very proud of himself. I am too! It was for Microsoft Tech Ed – lots of geeks clambering to hear about software as a service (Saas). He and his co-presenter got lots of good questions and people came up to him afterwards (even at the airport) and said it was great.

I was so excited to see his presentation and name listed on the Tech Ed programme – so official! And he had a special speaker’s shirt, hat, gift, hotel room and pass to all areas … the hotel room was the most exciting in his mind!

I went to pick him up at the airport and there were lots of geeks getting off the plane proudly wearing the Tech Ed placards and backpacks. The Mister swaggered off looking very ‘yeah-but-I-was-a-*speaker*’ !
