After thinking they weren’t going to, we discovered that Sky had a re-run of the Oscars so we could go ahead with the planned Oscars picnic of left-overs and new things made from left-over ingredients from the birthday dinner last night. Bit of a hotch potch and all entirely made up – a great picnic.
We saw the last hour of the Oscars – it’s like it’s gone all PC or something – having little speeches made to all the nominees in the best actor and actress categories. It’s not that they don’t deserve it but have they changed the format because there’ve been bad losers? Or did they have to put something in place so that Kate Winslet got some specific acknowledgment in case she didn’t finally get an Oscar? The Mister was puffing and moaning that it was all a love fest … perhaps that was our last Oscars picnic.

Might have to start blogging about the scones more frequently. Just saw Nikau Chef and she said she was going to come to the blog to check out our efforts! Also apparently a lot of weekend Nikau diners have just stopped going out at the weekend like us. Perhaps I should invite them arond for date scones! And maybe Nikau will offer up our pinwheel variety when they re-open later in the year …

My cosy is still there this morning! And I’m in the current post on the Outdoor Knit blog!

Just had a very enjoyable birthday dinner evening with the in-laws. Lots of laughter and good food and everything went to plan, even the experimental presentation of the entree – wasn’t sure whether it was going to be the one-mouthful-wonder that I hoped for but it was! Quite successful. Bit of a Top Chef-styple interpretation of Insalata Caprese.
Tomato & mozzarella bites
Spanakopita & salad greens
Warm spiced apple cake & whipped cream
And an Alsace Grand Cru Pinot Gris – I don’t like pinot gris (that famous quote of mine says it all “eeeeuw it tastes like the smell of a rotten lemon found in the bottom of the fruit bowl”) but this one was quite nice. The Grand Cru was probably the mind-changer … damn expensive taste!
February 22nd, 2009 — Orange
On our way out to the movies this afternoon (via the cosy trees, which were still wearing their knitting) we saw the Audi TTS in ’solar orange’. Didn’t look too bad – probably not quite the orange I’d have in a car and usually I don’t like the TT but the S version isn’t too bad. Doesn’t look as bug-like as previous versions.

Live blogging … here’s The Mister right now on the start of a birthday dinner from Orange Kitchen for his mum tonight.
And he’s well and truely an orange husband now … when he saw this photo he said “wow, look how green everything is”! I’m sure there are still people that look at our kitchen and say “god it’s so orange.”
February 21st, 2009 — Out and about, Woollen things
On our way out to the Batman Marathon at Reading last night we stopped by the trees to see how much cosy love they’d got during the day. Plenty!
February 21st, 2009 — Urban family
Was talking (well waving and squawking and goo’ing and gaaa’ing) with Aidan on Skype today and he sent over this picture of him and his cool dude dad in their sunnies.
February 21st, 2009 — Tech commentary, Twit
So last weekend The Mister’s niece started blogging and today I got an email from my niece. Pretty cool.

The Moggie’s kitties have grown so much, and they’re lovely and soft and friendly and didn’t mind a pat at all.
