Gisborne Day 2

Made it yesterday morning in the rain in time for the funeral. Really good to see Bevan again even under these sad circumstances. Cannot believe it’s 25 years since I’ve been here – and Williams & Kettle has GONE! It’s now a Warehouse and Liquorland complex! The main street is leafy and bustling although not sure about the shops hidden under the trees – not sure what the range is however have seen a LOT of accounting firms!

Have been to one cafe so far, an organic one serving Bay Espresso (Hawke’s Bay I think) and that wasn’t bad. Good home baking. Have discovered Cafe Ruba just around the corner, big orange doors and Supreme coffee but they shut at 3pm – what are they thinking? – that’s afternoon tea time!! Will try again today.

Lovely blue day to day but winter cold. We look out onto the port.

Attempted to give our breakfast dishes a quick handwash this morning, but despite the hotel having signs around the place about reusing your towels so they don’t have to wash them, thereby saving the environment by using less electricty and detergent, they supply no dish washing liquid so you have to run the dishwasher for a couple of plates and cups!
