Hellooooo salt!

So it’s been 6 months without or with low salt and am gradually, well actually sometimes head first, getting it back into my diet.

What I’ve missed:

  • pizza
  • potato chips (haven’t actually had any yet)
  • (close your eyes Steph) pancetta fat
  • mashed potatoes with salt on them
  • parmesan cheese
  • Won’t say peanut butter, as the low salt organic stuff we found is pretty good

So the good news is I don’t have anything nasty lurking in my head (physically that is!) but there’s probably too much stress and anxiety rattling around in there. Amazing how emotional ‘conditions’ can manifest themselves so physically. Might have to make some big changes next year … as I type this I know I won’t!

Cardies for twins

Have finished the set of cardies for Short Dark Friend to give to her friend who’s had twins. Started them on 23 August so that’s a lot of knitting – 2 cardies in a month basically! Snuck some orange in the borders.

Orange chairs

Imagine the smile that spread across my face when I rounded the corner on a walk aroud the block the other day to see these cool orange chairs outside Arabica. Might have to start drinking coffee there.

Orange bags

So much orange stuff in the stores right now. Every other window has an orange bag in it – might be a sign.

WOW around town

The flags for the WOW awards this year look cool – nice spash of orange.

And it’s great to see all the stores putting a dress in the window made out of various materials – I especially like the lolly one across the way from the office.

You don’t realise until you get close up that it’s decorated with marshmallows, Pinky bars and milk bottle lollies.

Canine parking

I love the little tie-up place for dogs at Moore Wilson’s ‘Canine Parking’ – and there’s always a couple of pooches sharing the hooks and looking starved for attention. Which of course everyone gives them.

Spotty gallery

City Gallery is opening this weekend after being closed for 9 months for earthquake strengthening. Nikau was run off their feet today with people around for this and the WOW Awards – World of Wearable Arts. The Gallery is decked out in spots for the occasion.

Orange Sydney

I know everyone is referring to the dust storms over Sydney as painting the town red but it looks orange to me. This series of photos especially.

LMP

Have not made lemon meringue pie in years and years but seeing as we brought a load of lemons back from Blenheim I thought I’d use them up by making this old fav – used to be my pudding request growing up whenever Mother asked what I wanted cooked for my birthday dinner.

Made the whole thing from scratch, even got out Bev’s kitchen whiz for the short crust pastry. Mmmm check out the lovely yellow lemony filling.

Couldn’t quite get the glossy high peak that Mother gets but still, it’s meringue.

It’s tastes good and am very proud to report that it actually holds together in proper pie slices.  It’s very lemony and makes The Mister make a sour puss face but it’s got to be good for you – a lot of lemon goodness goes in to half a cup of lemon juice … I’m sure cancelled out by a cup of sugar, but still, got to be some Vitamin C in there somewhere.

Get me out of here

Another random thing noticed on the ground today (The Mister always quotes the ‘potato incident‘ as being something only I’d notice and give much thought to) but it’s rather orange so it wasn’t going to go unnoticed. In that little alley of Ghuznee Street that I’m sure in 000’s of years will close over because of the layers of spray paint that are added each week:

And the way I’m feeling right now I almost jumped right in.
