I cry every time!

What is it with the current series of NZ Post ads? It’s a combination of the music (One Day by OpShop) with great harmony at just the right time to really capture the moment in the story that you get hooked on in the 30 seconds the ad is showing. I think the story that really gets me is the new father who hasn’t spoken to his own father in such a long time so (via NZ Post) he sends a photo of his new baby and his father comes to see them and the look in their eyes and their hug says sorry for everything I said and did and didn’t do and all the years we’ve missed and they’re friends again! Christ, almost crying typing this!!!

Star spotting

Was just out to dinner (on a Friday night with other grown-ups no less) and who should be sitting in direct line of sight from me at Capitol but Sigourney Weaver! Even though I’ve seen her most in films when she was younger and rushing about, it was definitely her. And again, all of us New Zealanders just let her get on with her dinner with her friends – no straining necks or gawking or clamouring for autographs. Although when she left and as soon as her back was turned and out the door the air in the restaurant moved as there was a huge collective head turn and gush ‘it WAS her’!

She’s here filming James Cameron’s new movie Avatar.

Pink laptop

Hmmm, watched Legally Blonde 2 the night before last (*only* because we’re going through our collection watching anything set in Washington DC) and saw again Elle’s pink lapatop. It’s making me question my decision to not color-mine-orange. If I am the orange to her pink them I’m not doing so well …

Cough cough honk

A day home sick with the head cold (caught on the way home from the States (and so far I am assuming it’s just the Mister’s cold that he had while there and not some international disease caught on the plane)) meant that I got to see an old episode of ER that they’re re-running on the new-ish channel prime. It was from Season 3 and a real blast from the past.

The episode I saw featured two people that I completely forgot had been in the show back then:

Dr Maggie Doyle – most recently known to me as Sarah Siddel from CSI,

… and Charlie (in the recurring role of a 14 year old on drugs) – more recently known to me as Mary-Jane from Spiderman!

Hooked on Dexter

A rather macabre plot and main character (Dexter) but never-the-less we’re hooked on this new show Dexter out of the States.

The basic premise: Dexter Morgan is a blood spatter tech for the Miami PD with a very well kept and amazingly well organised secret life as a serial killer, ridding the Miami area of bad people who have gotten out of paying for their crimes … murderers, rapists etc who are walking free because of glitches in the justice system.

Even if you didn’t follow 6 Feet Under and get to know David Fisher (the gay mortician) there’s no denying that Michael C. Hall who also plays Dexter does a fantastic job of being this complex double-person.

Don’t eat tea in front of the show otherwise definitely watch it when it comes to NZ tv.

They’re coming back

The FletchTV hiatus is almost over – our shows are starting again soon:

  • Prison Break – 17 September
  • Heros – 24 September
  • Bones – 25 September
  • ER – 27 September
  • Grey’s Anatomy – 27 September

Cabbage and flatulance

Quick! Turn on the Discovery channel! Adam is in the bath waiting to fart so they can capture it in some kind of elaborate Mythbuster fart-catcher in order to analyse it’s elements. I just don’t believe these guys!!

Tears for cars

Even though I’m full of a cold and the Mister should have got chick flicks from the store in order to keep me resting on the couch, he came home with a documentary! Huh? However, I gave it a chance after the eye-opening experience I had with An Inconvenient Truth. This turned out to be just as interesting and at times heart wrenching.

Who Killed the Electric Car?

GM put money into the development of it in the mid-90’s and 10 years later destroyed them all (that bit made me cry – they crushed up the poor little things). Whether or not they were going to make any money out of it whether through perceived lack of demand or loss of sales to their own big gas guzzlers I don’t understand why they had to destroy them! People lined up for days in the rain outside the place where they were being stored, rallying for their release, but they still came and took them away in big trucks.

If you talk to the Mister you’ll get a far better economic, social, political and scientific commentary than that but it made me think and that’s pretty impressive.
