Happiness is a green hat

Being from Florida, Kara doesn’t own many woolly things – especially not hats, scarves or gloves. She mentioned she was looking for a snugly woolly hat and of course I had to show off about my knitting. I took my beanie pattern book into work to see if there was one she liked then set about finding some wool. Not so easy here! Shops are not in the city, they seem to be little specialty shops out in the burbs. However, it seems that Patons, a wool I used in New Zealand a lot, could be ordered online here. I picked what I hoped was a good green – she loves green … I didn’t tell her I was making it.

I gave it to her this morning. She opened it and grabbed it and said something like “Holy crap, I’m I’m speechless, I thought if I was lucky I might get something by next winter. I love it. Holy crap. Best. Monday. Ever.” I was happy! And so was she – it was put on straight away!

And didn’t take it off for the rest of the day

Finished my first knitting project in San Francisco … well, it’s probably not truly a San Francisco project until the wool and buttons come from here but my supplies are still from New Zealand and the the button store in Sydney.

Hopefully it’ll make it to the office before Wellington warms up too much so little Enrico can get some wear out of it.

Received a very enthusiastic picture of Johnny in his Xero beanie today! Seems it’s striking enough that it provides a good conversation starter about Xero – marketing opportunities everywhere. BTW Johnny, don’t worry about the Orange Cooties that might’ve been transferred to you after I tried it on – they’re harmless I promise!

Third beanie finished already! Wanted a picture of it before I sent it off to a colleague in Auckland but it looks the same as the other 2 I made so to get a different photo I decided I would model it! Apparently he wants to be Xero branded when snow boarding so I guess this means he’ll wear it!

Will now wait for photo of him wearing it …

Got this great photo from Lucas’s mum yesterday – Xero knitting #11 was a new pattern and took quite a while because the hood is deceptively large to knit – isn’t he cute!

This time something different made in Xero colours – a beanie!

A while ago I tweeted from the @Xero account with a picture of Xero knitting #12 and one of our accounting partners asked what he’d have to do to get a Xero beanie. I joked that if I could find some ‘adult’ wool I’d make him one – he seemed quite excited so it was a challenge I couldn’t pass up.

I found some wool in the little shop downstairs – lovely soft felted 12-ply in a perfect colour – I found a fairly decent beanie pattern that didn’t look like it would have too much of a square top and I knitted most of it during our rainy weekend in Blenheim.

I sent it over to Australia to our tweeting partner and he was even more excited than I thought – I received much praise which I basked in and now another partner in Auckland has requested one! Here’s the beanie in Australia

Tommy *does* like his cardie! The day it arrived his mum dressed him in it – a great fit now that the weather is cooling down a bit. Bet he’ll grow out of it quickly though!

Another little Xero garment off the needles – this one pretty quick – returned to the old faithful pattern and it’s the smallest size, for a baby born about a week ago. This time I reversed the usual colours and made it white with blue stripes. Also put the orange stripe somewhere different for a change – on the front rather than a sleeve. I like it! Hope Tommy and his mum do too!
