Xero knitting #11

This last project has been part of a knitalong – working on it a while as I’ve paced myself to keep in sync with the group (almost finished Xero knitting #12) alongside it!!

It’s a pattern one of the girls found so not something I’d attempted before – jacket with a hood. But it looks great! It’s for baby Lucas – not strictly a Xero baby but belonging to one of our accounting partners, he’s in the family!

When we’re all done I’ll try and get a photo line-up – the smallest and quickest to knit jumper has already been sent off to the Hawke’s Bay but luckily a photo was snapped before it went!

A knitalong for Xero knitting #11

Apparently I’m somewhat of a ’senior’ knitter among those who knit at Xero, and I think they mean senior in terms of experience and advancement, not age! However, 2 colleagues wanted to knit baby things so using a pattern one of them had found we’re all knitting it together. Well, kind of.

I was up in Awakeri on the agreed start date, so posted my start via photo on Twitter and coined the hashtag #knitalong

Started knitalong

Last week we had a knitalong at work.

Knitalong meetup

We’re all making different sizes and the smallest one is progressing the fastest – as you’d expect – however with all those coloured ends Miss Connolly will be sewing them in for a while giving Mrs H and I time to catch up.

The pattern is a hooded jacket and I’m doing it in Xero colours for one of our accounting partners in Wellington – other than the time I knitted for our Company Secretary, this is the first time I’ve done Xero knitting for someone who’s not staff.

Xero knitting #10

Just finished this little cardigan in record time – did a few rows in Awakeri at Christmas and it’s way too warm for the bub to wear it now but at least it’s done. It’s for a new Xero baby but as she has 2 brothers who have Xero-coloured jumpers already, her dad asked for something pink.

So I obliged.

Xero knitting #9 on show

I finished the latest Xero cardie during the week especially for the Granny who was going to be in town from the Auckland office to take it back to her granddaughter. It turned out very neatly given that I hadn’t used this pattern in a while. I’m also very impressed with myself – got some craft scissors, orange card and orange ribbon for a little ‘made by’ tag for it.

The cardie was received with much excitement and even though it must be stinking hot in Auckland it was taken to a family gathering today and tried on for a photo for me. Here’s Tereina – doesn’t she look gorgeous?

Apparently she’s on the cat’s chair and he looks most put out!

Stitch n bitch

This morning the newly convened Xero Stitch n Bitch group (so far just Mrs H and me) saw the completion of the rather complex knitted iPad cover that Mrs H had enlisted my help on. We’ve had a few lunchtime sessions in the back meeting room at Xero.

Stitch n bitch

Since starting a couple of weeks ago I’ve helped decipher a rather abbreviated pattern downloaded from the internet to knit a seamless ‘pocket’ with 2 cable needles, read a grid of dots and letters that represents an apple shape (without explaining that it was instructions for every second row), learn how to make an enormous knitted button hole using a crochet hook rather than casting on (including teaching a left-hander how to crochet in the process), and casti off with a darning needle using something called Kitchener Stitch requiring no sewing!

The pattern has a clever reverse-stitch/colour combo in order to achieve a kind of hologram effect when holding the cover horizontally to reveal a perfect Apple apple logo. You can’t really see the shape when holding the cover at a different angle, you can see there’s a pattern of some sort but not a recognisable shape. Very clever!

The recipient (Rod) was very chuffed with it!

Xero knitting #9

My current knitting project is for a Xero granny and I’ve gone back to a pattern I used to make for friends in my 20’s – have never used this one for a Xero cardie before. The pattern’s fairly brief and needles and measurements all in pre-metrics! And only one size so I have to hurry up before the bub is too big for it!

Button haul

Here are all the buttons I got in Sydney last weekend – will have to do a lot of knitting to use them all up! Whether I do or not it’s very nice to have them :)

Aidan watch

Finished my latest commissioned work for Aidan while in Blenheim visiting last weekend. He was pretty cute watching me knitting – he kept coming over and asking “Is that for me?” and at one point ran off with it trailing the unravelling ball of wool behind him to show his mother.

Brown vest finished!

When I finally finished it, about half an hour before we left, he couldn’t wait to put it on over the top of his PJs – very cute!

Aidan watch

Got this awesome series of pictures at the weekend of Aidan wearing the mittens I knitted him. Apparently he loves them. He wore them to bed the first night and when Dean got home, told him “They’re to keep my hands warm Daddy.” And showed them very proudly to Nana the next day “Cathy knitted them for me”. Awwww so cute!

Xero knitting #8 on show

I delivered the cardigan to work for Sophie yesterday and was chuffed to see a photo from her father in my email this morning as they’d had Sophie try it on already – isn’t she cute?!

After a passing comment of mine that I enjoyed knitting but had only been lucky enough to see a baby wearing a Xero outfit once in real life, what do you know, her mum brought her into the office wearing her cardie. I was stoked!
