Hi Mum, I’m a horse

My mother is attending night classes to brush up on her school-girl French, so in a show of support using French I’ve picked up from 3rd form French (taught distractedly by the Irish Guidance Counsellor) and road signs, menus and guidebooks on trips to France, I thought I would greet her on the phone last night in French. I had to leave a message (God how times have changed when parents are always out on school nights!) so I spluttered “Bonjour. Ce mois une fille” … the rest of the message was in English … upon hanging up I wondered had I perhaps said (albeit badly and grammatically incorrect) “Hello. It’s me a horse.” All hung on the translation of ‘fille’ which I’m pleased to report this morning after investigation, is in fact ‘daughter’.
