We watch Rove Live most Friday nights and this weekend got to see him actually LIVE – in the flesh! He did a stand-up show at the Opera House (well two shows back to back actually) on Saturday night and we were there – front row Gallery (yikes it’s precarious up there!!).
Rove’s the first stand-up show I’ve been to and he was great! I had face ache at the end of the show from smiling and laughing so much. I know it’s all planned but it’s just so clever how one thread of a story could go on for 45 minutes as he was ‘side-tracked’ by various things that came up in the story. I can’t remember actual examples now but it was very clever. He’d also done his NZ and Wellington research – obviously had the obligatory election stuff, plus poked fun at Invercargill and badly pronounced Hokitika but also mentioned the number 12 bus to Seatoun in passing – even if he did pronounce Seatoun badly as well! He also did a pretty good Kiwi accent. And he said fuck a lot which he’s not allowed to do on the telly.
