Cannot believe it got up to 29 degrees in Wellington yesterday! Except I do believe it as we were sweltering in it. The top floor of our apartment was an oven so we sat downstairs in the hallway sorting out some old photo frames waiting for it to cool down. Had the most fantastic dinner though – it involved the oven (perhaps not a good idea on a hot day) but very little effort involved – slow roasted tomatoes and garlic, mashed with a bit of basil and stirred through tortellini – YUM.
Hot hot hot

France Telecom phone box
February 3rd, 2005 — Out and about
I’ve wondered for ages now why there is a France Telecom phone box in the cobbled square on Customhouse Quay outside the Hotel Intercontinental (ex Park Royal). I asked a very knowledgeable friend last night and the only thing he had to say about it was that it had a mirrored floor which revealed interesting things depending on who was in the phone box! I’ve seen so many people in there struggling to make a call, reading the signs, looking in their guide books and I often feel sorry for them. They’re obviously not French or calling France so can’t take advantage of the special direct connection to the French Telecom network. Alas this is not the case and we should indeed feel sorry for anybody attempting to use the phone in there – there is not, and never will be a connection as it’s part of an exhibition! An exhibition of what I don’t know, phone boxes perhaps? I couldn’t find out any more about it during the 5 minutes of Google time I allowed myself.
I’m the hassler not the hasslee!!
February 3rd, 2005 — Work
Found myself in a very unusual situation today when someone came to ask me where a document was that I’m preparing, and when would I be done with it as people were asking for it! God it felt strange. My heart rate went up and I feel very guilty! However it’s a functional spec I am writing for another department on top of my regular job so I have permission from up on high for the preparation of the document to be slow and in my own time. Nevertheless I felt terrible and hunkered down and finished it this afternoon instead of getting out there and enjoying the sun now that the endless fog seems to have finally lifted. I’m sure it’s widely known that being white and pasty in the summer is fashionable …
