Sometimes you just have to wonder what cosmic force is at work … this is scarily accurate about me (well, a lot of it):
Pisces Employee Profile
===================
The Pisces employee can be a loyal and hard-working, if unconventional, worker. In the right position, they are able to keep their daydreams in check and buckle down on the detail work-giving their all to the boss and corporation whom they feel are worthy of devotion.
On the flip side, there is no image of extreme misery like that of an ill-placed Pisces worker. They will act as though their cubicle were a prison cell as they daydream of their own business or next vacation.
Unhappy Pisces workers usually won’t stick around too long. Often Pisceans will drift from one job to another looking for that ideal environment to which they will be able to commit and feel a sense of purpose. And if things are going in a bad direction at the office, Pisces will be the first to sense it. They’d rather pick up and leave then wait until the problem reaches a head. Pisces are often misunderstood by their co-workers.
Typically timid and introspective, they usually keep their true nature hidden, for fear it wouldn’t fit with the corporate culture. What motivates a Pisces employee to not only stick around but also excel? Try compliments. And show them how their work impacts the entire organization.
They need to know that what they are doing is worth something on a grander scale. Acceptance of their unconventional organization and planning will be necessary. Just because their sales report isn’t in the typical format doesn’t mean it is any less effective. Keep their environment bright and upbeat; and an after-work cocktail wouldn’t hurt.

As people around me arrive to work the conversation turns to how much they drank, how much their flatmates drank, how late they slept to get over hangovers.
God I feel old.

Following on from my wasted effort a few days ago to find a list of pre-1965 buildings in Wellington that are likely to need earthquake-proofing; I was pleased to see that the Council today have released a document for public submission – Draft Earthquake-prone Buildings Policy. Finally, someone is going to tell me whether our building is on the list.
But no.
The following sets out the procedure Council will use to establish the earthquake-prone status of all buildings.
And once the have identified buildings, owners will be issued a notice to fix or demolish within X years based on a risk rating. I want to know now! Searching through the rest of the policy I came excitedly upon a section that looked like it would answer my question.
But no.
5. Availability of Earthquake-Prone Building Information
The database of potentially earthquake prone buildings is publicly available upon request and includes information that is already provided in Land Information Memoranda. The database will provide a summary of the data and also the current status of the building as potentially earthquake prone or earthquake prone. It will note whether this information is pending an outcome of an assessment to determine its correct status. The information will continue to be included in property reports and Land Information Memoranda.
Thanks to the bad grammar in this section I can’t tell if the database exists or will exist. I don’t know enough about building regulations to know if this database is something that will help me or not. I suppose if it holds LIM information then I could contact our Body Corporate to see if there is a LIM – we didn’t get one when we bought our apartment – tsk tsk. I just want to know how old our building is!
So my search continues.

The radio station we listen to has a new guy doing the morning traffic reports – he sounds just like the traffic guy on the radio station we were listening to in New York while we were there. It’s amazing. He even makes Wellington businesses sound like they’re American companies in his little advertising sentence at the end of the report. And when he says “traffic flowing well on State Highway 1” I swear he could be talking about the giant East Coast 1-95!

Had a pretty grown-up discussion with our ‘Priority Banking Consultant’ recently in the lead up to re-financing our mortgage. Picked up a couple of very interesting points:
- You essentially pay off a lump sum on a fixed mortgage if you manage a portion of the mortgage on floating, concentrate on paying as much off that as you can, and at re-finance time drawn down the floating to the original amount by reducing the fixed.
- The value of the property + the amount you’ve paid off your mortgage = something call equity. This is as good as cash to the bank when it comes to pulling together a deposit on another property.

Aro Bakery mini Christmas mince pies are ALL GOOD. One or two bites, lots of soft pastry and not too much mince. Just fab with a cuppa in the mornings.

Parliament was officially opened yesterday and via the TV coverage we found out that the guy all dolled up in a uniform with the big wand that he bangs on the door of the House with is a guy that lives in our building.
Would never have picked that, mind you we don’t actually *know* him.
