Out my window today I saw

This time I managed to catch the rainbow(s!) in action

Fire alarm – 22 floors up – part 2

Another fire alarm at 10.15am – but this time, I was at my desk. Clopped down 22 floors in a skirt and heels. I was feeling rather dizzy by the end of it. It took about 10 minutes to empty the building and the queue for the lifts finally cleard at 11am.

Out my window today I saw

  • a full end-to-end (pot-to-pot) rainbow

Out my window today I saw

Looked like someone had etched the sky with one of those charcoal pencils:

Experimented with slow shutter speed – this is the city looking south at 10 seconds:

Out my window today I saw

  • a handful of red heart-shaped balloons floating by the window which I think are probably something to do with Heart Children Week next week

  • a beautiful clear dead-straight jetstream heading South

Out my window today I saw:

  • a big reddish coloured ship (a freighter I think) sailing across the ocean beyond Island Bay

  • a graduation parade that went down Willis Street and into Civic Square where the graduates set a whole lot of balloons free.

Out my window today I saw:

  • white caps in the sea way in the distance in Island Bay
  • a helicopter landing on the roof of the hospital
  • a small Air NZ plane flying right over the top of the building – got a really clear look at it’s belly and wheels up

Fire alarm – 22 floors up

Arrived to work this morning and the building had recently been evacuated because of a fire alarm. The lifts had not come back online so the foyer was crowded. Depending on one’s mood, working on the 22nd floor has both advantages and disadvantages in this situation.

  • Advantage: no-one actually expects you to walk up 22 floors. I’m not sure what the cut-off point is though – 10 floors?

  • Disadvantage: if you’re not feeling particularly patient, waiting for 45 minutes for the lifts can be extremely frustrating. Especially if you just had coffee, or are too new in your job to recognise or strike up random conversation with your co-workers.

Very interesting to watch people arrive, figure out what’s going on, find a pod of people they know and decide what to do next.

Command centre

I have been relegated to a life of eating dinner on the couch. An online accounting system is born.

Sigh. Lucky I’m such a patient person.

Piggies!!

Perks of the new job – we all got piggy mouse mats 🙂
