After my excitement about the first ever marigold seedling last spring and the subsequent transformation to a small marigold bush, imagine my excitement with what’s in the pot at the moment – an absolute explosion of seedlings! Just in one half of the pot mind you.
I discovered when I pulled out the one dead plant (that grew from the aforementioned seedling and bush) that the dead flowers are actually all new seeds so they all fell down into the dirt as I was getting it out. So I used my tiny apartment gardening fork to scratch them into the dirt, even though it’s not the recommended planting time according to the back of the marigold packet, and wa la! More plants. Hopefully they’ll do the full cycle but there might be too many in there. Might have to transplant to the other pot …

One of those gorgeous blue but very cold days yesterday so we wrapped up and got out to feel the sunshine somewhere. Found a gorgeous spot on the pavement outside People’s Coffee in Garret St where we’ve starting going on a Saturday for a takeaway if it’s fine.
Also noticed on our drive around that they’ve started the first of the pumpkin structures at the airport – I think they’re going to be part of the new international terminal. They’re going to be quite orange and pumpkin-like based on the sketches I’ve seen in the paper over the last year or so.
Went out last night, on a school night, gasp, to see Wayne Brady’s stand-up show. I’ve seen him a bit on that old show Who’s Line is it Anyway? and a few episodes of Don’t Forget the Lyrics – he’s pretty funny and talented. It was truly amazing to see him in person – he is so quick with the funny stuff. And boy, he can dance. He also did fantastic impressions of In Sync, Rod Stewart, Mick Jagger and Prince by singing songs that included one-liners suggested by the audience like ‘you can never have too many sheep’ or ‘glitter is the herpes of the craft world’. God he was funny.
And the show was audience participation of course, in the style of Who’s Line is it Anyway? – I was rather pleased we got to sit upstairs away from the action … I feel so sorry for the somebody’s mother that had to get up and make sound effects for the scene being played out! I mean what noise *does* a boomerang make anyway!
So, when the audience was being coached in how to make noise and shout out, we were asked to shout out answers to a couple of easy questions.
What’s your favourite colour? I shouted out ‘orange’ (of course) along with the rest of the Town Hall shouting out their colours so we made quite a bit of general noise and I couldn’t clearly hear ‘orange’ (except for the Mister shouting it too bless him) or hear myself say it.
What’s your favourite movie? I shouted, louder, ‘Fifth Element’, but still not loud enough as all I could hear was louder jumbled shouting as everyone started to find their voice, including the Mister as he said something else.
So, the last question, I was really fired up by now to be heard. What’s your favourite book? I let it rip and positively screamed ‘TWILIGHT’, and sh*t, that’s all you could hear! That lead to some joke about Wellingtonians not being big readers, and I was pretty embarrassed that our entire section were looking at me!!
Another very funny, quick and smooth reaction from him was when his offsider was seeking information from a guy in the front row upon which to build a skit around.
Offsider: … and what do you do sir?
Man: I’m an analyst.
Offsider: OK. And what do you analyse?
Man: Well, the supply and demand of stuff I guess.
Offsider: What kind of stuff.
Man: … ummmm, I dunno, any kind of stuff. Chocolate.
Wayne (stepping forward in very smoother manner): And here I am. You demand it. I supply it.
He got such a roar for that. It really was an amazing show. Except he now thinks that Wellingtonians don’t read and all work for The Government because of the 15 people he interacted with or got up on stage, 13 of them worked in government departments!

Last yoga class last night. However, I’ve been saved in my quest to find a new place to go because last week our instructor started to gather up interest in people sticking with him if he ran one class a week himself. So I wrote my name on the list. Only thing is, he’s not doing it at beginner level (yes I know in your minds I’m probably not a beginner seeing as I’ve been going for 3 years) so I’m guessing that there might be a few new poses to learn or I’ll not be as bendy as others in the class. Seems like it might be going ahead. It’s going to be in the same place at a later time. So good news is I get to keep the same instructor, bad news is it’ll be harder which will mean I hurt even more the next day and I’ll have to have dinner really late on a Thursday night. Might have to start having a Thursday afternoon snack that’s more than a bikkie – god, might have to bring bread to work and store it in the kitchen like everyone else. Yick.
I hope Gotham is open in the morning. ANZAC day and most everything else is closed until 1pm.
The Lambton Quay store. The little screw that holds the glasses arm on fell out of the glasses I bought in New York last year – took them into that store and the lady fixed them on the spot, no charge, and said I could call in any time if they got loose again! Excellent service!
Yikes – had to take the camera in for repair, it’s started to have a pink tinge and pink border on all the photos. Not sure I can cope without it for 2 weeks but hey, who knew after all these years it might be fixed for free as a known fault!
Well it’s done. ER. I’ve just watched the final of the show. I was in tears by the end of the opening credits! Several years ago they swapped the original green credits with theme music and montage of actors for much quicker blue credits which only had a couple of bars of the theme and no pictures – for the final they brought back the original theme music and used a mix of old and new actors to reproduce the original credits. For die hard fans this was such an amazing trip. The final show was great. People all saying goodbye in ways befitting the story, a few things left unfinished but you were left imagining nothing but a good outcome and the lights went down on a huge trauma involving everyone running about and loads of ambulances, business as usual which is how it had to be. And a nice reversal of Dr Carter and ‘Dr’ Greene. I thought the last scene that faded to black was perfect – I don’t think in the entire series we’ve ever seen the hospital in location – the ambulance bay, entrance, hospital sign, L running around the front and Chicago buildings behind. God I can’t believe I’ve been hooked on the show for 15 years.
