Xero orange

With the latest release of Xero we have opened the product’s online help up to an external website so it can be viewed by anyone out there, not just those who subscribe to Xero. This is a pretty big deal for me because it puts my work on display. Now people who normally can’t see what I do, can.

Obviously I’m delighted that my orange influence has made it through into the product – it’s not in the company’s brand colour palette so I feel pretty special!

Even the icon for bookmarking the site is orange – YIPPPEEEEE!

Oh, yeah, if you want to see the help, it’s http://help.xero.com

Xero to One

It’s my Xero birthday today – have been here a year!

Highlights are:

  1. Single-handedly written around 500 pages of help.
  2. Published a book!
  3. Filed my stuff at home by financial year.
  4. Xero bought me an orange chair.

Next year’s plans are:

  • To be working in the New York office – ha!

Grow your own Christmas tree

Someone at work has got a grow-your-own-Christmas-tree – it’s VERY cool. After 12 hours it will have fur tree type branches – you can see it starting already on the bottom branches after only a few hours! Looks as though it will work and be far less traumatic than my grow-your-own-kitty experiment.

6.45pm

7.45pm … I think it’s stopped growing

7.30am … almost 12 hours later … definitely stopped growing & has started getting a bit whiter in places

8.45am … last but not least, the tree was decorated (thought I better use the photo with the tree owner’s hand in it seeing as he’s been bugged by a constant stream of girls ooo’ing and aaaah’ing over the tree for the last 20 hours, all wanting to touch it and ask how it works!)

Another brainy mate

I know a Rocket Scientist!! Honest! A guy I work with is one. I would post a photo but as it’s Movember he’s very hairy (9 days in) and a bit too dodgy-looking to grace this blog 🙂

NZ Hi-Tech Young Achiever of the Year 2007

Oh oh – some press even!

Ready for the awards

On our way to the NZ HiTech Awards … now we wait in anticipation … it’s so nerve-wracking!

NZ Hi-Tech Awards finalists 2007

Went to a bit of a do last night to hear the names of the finalists for this year’s NZ Hi-Tech Awards being read out.

The Mister’s on the list! He and 2 others are in the running to be the next NZ Hi-Tech Young Achiever of the Year. I am *very* proud!

Good luck!

P.S. And thanks to me for putting together a submissions essay that would rival Elle Woods’ (minus the bikini video of course!)

P.S.S. Press coverage begins … 🙂

Cool ad

I was very taken with an ad put out by our company this week. Since the advent of text messaging we’ve become more and more used to comprehending words and passages because of their general shapes and what we *expect* to see.

Based on this I thought this back-to-front question was cool:

And it was vey interesting around the office to see who saw the last word as ‘this’ and who saw it as ‘shit’.

Then turn it upside down altogether and it just gets cleverer:

My own orange book

It’s been an orange week for me with cars and bags but by far the most exhilarating was receiving all the online help I’ve written for Xero published as a real book. It was quite overwhelming to see all the work I’ve done in something as ‘traditional’ as a book. I know how much work I’ve done, I know how much there is, I’ve seen it all printed out but now that it’s in an actual book it’s kind of hit home. And the reaction I’ve had from others is so uplifting (I’ve been waving it all over the place showing everyone at work, one of our board members I saw in the street and the guys that make the coffee) – everyone is so amazed and so interested and so impressed that I’ve written enough to fill 350 pages – it’s the size of a real book. Someone at work has now had the idea of getting her brother’s blog printed out as a book as a gift for him.

I have to say I am *very* proud of myself 🙂

Out my window today I saw …

Sun rising on the fountain this morning looks very cool. Pity my camera zoon isn’t any better.
